Curated Deep 50
Curated Deep 50
Every spring I find myself heading out to the farm on a warm Sunday morning to gather plants for my garden at our Frye Mountain Camp. I grab a tray and rove among the thousands of transplants ready for action in the greenhouse. I glance at tags, think about color, form, texture, and fragrance, and gather up disparate groupings of transplants—one of these, a half dozen of those—and sketch out a garden in my mind. I would like to do the same for you. This is a project I feel really excited about.
This is the fifth year we are offering these custom grown 50’s. They are a lot of work to pull off and it’s a little stressful, but we still really love it! This year we will be offering only one pick-up window focusing on earlier season plants—pickup will be mid-May. We will be emailing (please include an email address we will be able to reach you at!) this year when the plants are ready to plant. While we will be happy to care for your tray for an extra day or two, but you should be prepared to come to Chase’s Daily (or send someone for you) to pick up your tray when it is ready. We will include a written plant list in addition to individual labels to make it a little easier for you to identify everything. There will not be specific planting plans or plant descriptions.
What you get: fifty plants that we will choose for you—propagated by seed, by corm, and by cutting—that are not necessarily commonly available and grown in a deep cell tray. We will start propagating some of these in February! There will be at least ten different varieties of cut flowers in each tray and they will be labeled. All the varieties included will thrive in full sun. Generally, 12 inches between plants will yield a beautiful tangle of a cutting garden. We will be sure to note if any varieties will require more space. Pickup will be in person at Chase’s Daily.
***Trays will be created based on pre-orders. We cannot honor specific requests for particular varieties. We will choose something beautiful for you!
***Failures happen. Buying a mixed tray of plants is a bit risky. Please be ready to plant when you pick up your tray. Even if you can’t plant everything immediately removing the biggest seedlings and planting those will go a long way to ensuring success. The diverse rates of growth and disparate water needs can result in casualties. Prioritize planting!
